Victim Offender Mediation for Adults
Nashville Conflict Resolution Center began a pilot project at the end of 2006 working with the District Attorney's Office to provide victim offender mediation services to Nashville-area adult residents who are referred pre-warrant by the D.A. Referrals are made by the D.A.'s Criminal Warrant Intake and Screening Office. NCRC's goal is to help parties resolve conflicts before criminal charges are issued. The types of alleged misdemeanor charges that are mediated include:
- Assault
- Harassment
- Vandalism
- Theft
- Threats
- Intimidation
The Victim Offender Mediation Program for Adults runs four days per week, Monday-Thursday. It is NCRC's largest program. NCRC-certified volunteers mediate cases in the afternoon (at 1 p.m.) in our Mediation Room in the A.A. Justice Birch Building downtown. Apprentice mediators are often present to observe and co-mediate.
Through the Victim Offender Mediation Program, NCRC is helping improve the criminal justice system by: 1) removing cases that can be resolved in face-to-face mediation and reconciliation, and 2) easing the strain on D.A., police, and court resources. NCRC is also helping individuals by: 1) saving them time, money and the stress/anxiety of litigation, and 2) providing them with important tools for preventing and/or resolving future conflicts. The Victim Offender program is a powerful alternative to violence.
ALL VICTIM OFFENDER MEDIATIONS ARE FREE TO PARTICIPANTS
