History

NCRC was founded in August of 2000 by the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Committee of the  Nashville Bar Association (NBA).  From 2000-2001, NCRC operated as an outreach project of the NBA.
  • In 2001, NCRC became incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization.  The board of directors hired its first Executive Director in that year.
  • The Executive Director developed NCRC's first mediation program in 2001 - General Sessions Court Civil Mediation.  The program was unanimously approved and supported by court judges.
  • From 2001-2004, NCRC launched a host of community-based mediation programs aimed at preventing and reducing conflict and violence in Nashville (Davidson County).
  • After these initial years of programmatic success, NCRC lost funding and staff in 2005, and shifted to volunteer operations.
  •  At the end of 2006, in collaboration with the District Attorney's office, the NCRC board initiated a Victim Offender Mediation pilot program.
  • In early 2008, NCRC received grant money from the Administrative Office of the Courts to hire a new Executive Director.

Tamara Ambar Losel was hired as Executive Director in March of 2008.  Her job is to manage, improve and expand NCRC's mediation and conflict resolution programs.
